So, we’re in the last months of 2020 already—how time flies! We’re sure that many of you love winter, but we’re also certain that some of you dread this time of year. Fortunately, there are ways to enjoy it, even if you don’t care for the season. We’re sharing some of our favorite ways to make the most of winter.

Devote Time To Daily Reflection

If you’re no stranger to seasonal affective disorder (SAD), then, of course, you know how awful it can be. We understand! People manage SAD with various techniques, however, know that introspection is one of the most crucial activities you can implement. It effortlessly aids you in beating the winter blues because you can focus on yourself in the present. Take the time to dig deep and ask yourself some questions.

Each morning, you can think:

  • How am I feeling today?
  • How do I want today to go?
  • What are the most important things I should do today?
  • What good news is out there right now?

Before bed, you can reflect on:

  • What went well
  • What you learned
  • What you’re grateful for
  • The things you can change, and the things you can’t change but can accept

Paired with positive affirmations, these questions will encourage mindfulness each day, and they’ll allow you to develop a deeper appreciation for your life in this season.

Find Ways To Spend Time Outdoors

Feeling like you’re cooped up inside? You can redirect this feeling—even when there’s a foot of snow on the ground. Run or walk on shoveled sidewalks or play in the snow with a pet or your loved ones. If you still want to get some fresh air, but you aren’t in the mood to exercise, that’s okay too! Bundle up with a hot beverage or snap some photos. If you really want to take it up a notch, consider splurging on a hot tub. Simply put, although many regions of the U.S. won’t experience warmer temperatures again for a while, you can still do so much outside in the cooler months.

Embrace Slowing Down

Instead of viewing indoor time as a restriction, appreciate it for what else it can bring you—for instance, it’s an opportunity for you to take it easy. Draw a bath, curl up with a captivating read, or watch a feel-good film. If those options don’t sound appealing, what about crafting, catching up over the phone with a close friend, or dusting off your old board games? Truly, when you put your mind to it, the possibilities are seemingly endless.

Take Advantage of the Seasonal Eats

There’s no better time than the winter to dig into your family’s comforting cuisine. Few things can top perfectly roasted meats and vegetables or decadent desserts. Savor the dishes—really immerse yourself in each bite. Or, why not try your hand at their recipes? As a bonus, baking and cooking allow you to concentrate on the tasks at hand—rather than on larger issues that are out of your control.

We hope you feel inspired to try one of our preferred ways to make the most of winter. Stay warm and take care of yourself.
